Dr. Raymond Torres-Santos, Chair of the Music Department, University of Puerto Rico | |
A
remarkable musician, Raymond Torres-Santos also excels as an orchestral,
electronic and vocal music composer. He has been invited to conduct many
orchestras in the United States and Europe. His musical background covers
a wide range of styles from classical and jazz to pop and modern where he
has distinguished himself as a composer, arranger, keyboardist and producer.
As an arranger and musical director, he has worked with many entertainers in the United States and Latin America. His musical compositions have been recorded by symphony orchestras and various pop artists worldwide. Dr. Torres-Santos has taught at several prestigious universities and was Director of the Commercial and Electronic Music Program at the California State University and Chair of the Music Department at the University of Puerto Rico. Dr. Raymond Torres-Santos is the recipient of numerous awards and his biography appears in the International Who´s Who in Music and Baker´s Biographical Dictionary of Musicians. He holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Music from the University of California in Los Angeles. He also studied at Stanford University and abroad in Italy and Germany. Previously, he studied at the University of Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, now the Casals Conservatory of Music, where he was later Chancellor. Requiem is a choral work composed by Torres-Santos which is now in CD. It was recorded live at the Union Church of San Juan, Puerto Rico on Good Friday, 1995. |
