  1. Viable … what a choice of words
Viable? For whom, and in what context? Practically speaking, I don’t think NYC is ready to elect a Latino to run the city – not after almost 12 years of white Republican control. Do I think he is the best candidate? Yes. Do I think he has a chance in hell? No.

  2. POOR FREDDY
Just based on his words on the A Diallo case I cannot morally back Ferrer. Anyone who does not acknowledge that act as a blatant and direct injustice simply should not represent minorities even if he himself is one.

    MICHAEL.

  3. RE: Viable … what a choice of words
Its difficult to associate a concept like ‘best candidate’ after an egregiously misguided statement brings ones judgement on all things into question, as it should.

  4. Freddy Ferrer
Given the the poor list of canditates
    that have announced their intentions
of running. I think he is the most
    viable at this time.

  5. Losing steam and lacking vision
Well, whatever the choice of words, Ferrer seems to be losing steam. He’s fallen behind Bloomberg in the polls today. Too bad. But is he our only hopeful? Across the boards–there is no inspired leadership.

  6. RE: Losing steam and lacking vision
Unfortunately, Ferrer was our only card. Sad ‘eh. Truly a sad day. In Puerto Rico, we have Rosello to contend with. In NYC we have this sad sack to represent us.

Re inspired, Bloomberg is clearly inspired, as are other candidates. I dare say, Fields in inspried as well.

  7. All lack vision
You are too hard on Freddy. He is a product of the machine just as they all aspire to be. To say that Bloomberg is inspired tells me more about the camp you’re in than anything about the big B. To consider Fields inspired is just as absurd. None is inspired and none is inspiring.

  8. RE: All lack vision
First of all, I did not vote for Blumberg nor would I ever vote for a Republican. Secondly, I was talking in relative terms.

If you can tell me in what way Ferrer is inspired, I would be happy to listen. Frankly, you would be hard pressed to show me how a human being can say that the egregious murder of Amadou Diallo was not a crime again humanity.

Not wanting someone with that duplicitous capacity in public office is not being ‘too hard.’ Think about it.

Given those choices, my vote goes to Fields; and believe me, Im not too happy with her.

  9. RE: RE: All lack vision
Just one comment is enough to sway opinion away from someone who might otherwise be competent to run this city with a greater sense of equity for Latinos and others. They all lack vision or rather reflect a period that is generally lacking in conviction and idealism.

Where was Virginia Fields when Diallo was killed? It happened in her borough and during her watch. Where was her outrage?

It is also telling that you would simply move to a person of color without evaluating her record or lack there of.

  10. RE: RE: RE: All lack vision
Is Ferrer NOT a person of color. Interesting remark…maybe even gets to the bottom of his comment and the basis of his support.

I believe his unfortunate remark will win him the White vote. Will it also win him the Latino vote.
