On Saturday, July 22, 2007, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer attended the launch of the East 106th Street Farmers Market. The outdoor fresh fruit and vegetable market is part of the Go Green East Harlem Initiative spearheaded by the Manhattan Borough President’s Office with the concerted efforts of the political leadership of the district and several community organizations and individuals. PRdream covered the opening.

I don’t see the video 🙁
I think this is fantastic. Is it true that Stringer wants to make East Harlem the Green showcase of New York? Wow. I’m loving it!

Harvest Home Farmer’s Market owns and operates the East 106th Street Farmer’s Market.
I attended Go Green East Harlem’s opening ceremony of the East 106th Street farmer’s market on July 22, 2007 and it was wonderful to see that the event was well attended. It shows that East Harlem residents DO want the same thing that downtown Manhattan residents have: access to healthier food. Now East Harlemites have a choice in purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables in their own community.
I wrote a news article about the event in Latin Week New York, a community newspaper. To read the highlights of the ceremony, the story can be accessed at this link:
