Sila Calderon, a woman, wins as governor
Well, for one, Sila Calderon is the first woman to ever become governor in Puerto Rico. She is of the PPD which means a continuity of the colony/commonwealth but nevertheless a rejection of statehood. It also means the Navy must make plans to leave Vieques. How effective she will be in making them move remains to be seen. But clearly the Puerto Rican people who have an outstanding electorate of over 85%, have been dissatisfied with the pro-statehooders who more and more parade themselves as imitation yankees unresponsive to the will of the people. We will all be staring at our colonial mirror straight on now–once again.
