The Populares not only won the governor's race, but they have a majority in both the House and in the Senate. The Populares will have 19 seats in this new Senate, the PNP will have 7 seats, quite a majority. Quite a majority.
One interesting Senate race: I will talk about one of the PNP leaders who decided to run for the Senate for the first time was Norma Burgos. She was Secretary of State. She actually won a lot of praise in Puerto Rico from all political sectors because of her defense of Vieques and when the Rosello Administration came out with its plan with President Clinton, she openly attacked it. There were members of her own party who tried to encourage other PNPs -- if you are truly pro-statehood, don't vote for her. She ended up getting more votes than any PNP candidate at large. Which is pretty interesting.
The House of Representatives: The Populares will have 27 seats, a majority, the pro-statehood PNP will have 23, one seat for the Independence Party. The Municipal races: The Populares will have 46 Mayorıs offices, the PNP will have 32. So they have a majority even there. Note in contrast, the PNP had a majority of Mayorıs [offices] in the last election.
