HONORING THE PIONEERS WHO CAME TO NEW YORK CITY BEFORE US
With this book we would like to honor the generation of Puerto Ricans who opened this city for us, the ones who have followed their steps. Some of these Puerto Ricans came to New York City before the Spanish American War of 1898 and or during the first four decades of the 20th Century. They came to this counrty like many other ethnic groups looking for better lives. They were very proud of their heritage and what they could contribute to this country. Indeed, they contributed the best and this book and the Centro collection are evidence of Puerto Rican contributions towards the history of New York City and to the country.
